So I finally saw The Hunger Games. LOVED IT. Duh.

Quick reactions: Jennifer Lawrence is distractingly beautiful, but a good enough actress to not let it pull you out of the story (Zac Efron could get some tips from her). I cried at the Reaping, when Rue died, and probably a couple more times throughout. Still hate Peeta Pocket Square.

Questions/Comments/Concerns:
- Is The Capitol actually Naboo? Has someone already brought this up?
- Wish they had done the Mockingjay pin story like it is in the book. The pin is such a vital symbol in the overall story that making it this throwaway trinket Katniss picks up from Greasy Sae just doesn’t seem fair.
- The in-Game violence isn’t graphic enough. I’m not looking for it to be gratuitous, and I know that anything more than what they showed might have garnered the movie an R rating (not great for the intended audience), but isn’t the point to shock and disturb? These are children fighting and killing each other. It shouldn’t be dismissed with quick cuts– it needs to be uncomfortable. This is a concern I have with the Ender’s Game movie that’s coming out, as well. I have faith in the cast, but the violence (perpetrated by and against children under the age of 10) is such a part of the story that I can’t see taking it out or whitewashing it.
- The mutts. I understand that it would have been hard to get across the whole built-from-the-Tributes-and-oh-yeah-they-have-their-eyeballs thing on film, especially in that short a time frame. Still, it makes them a million times more terrifying and disturbing.
- On that note: the completely computer-generated nature of the Games in the movie surprised me. It could be just my interpretation of the books, but I had pictured it as more hands-on. Of course they were controlled by the Gamemaker and everything, but the fact that they could just build these creatures and send them in via hologram felt off.
- Speaking of Seneca Crane: isn’t he, like, super important later in the series? I know we didn’t actually see him die, but it was pretty strongly implied. Unless that was just a harsh warning from President Snow and he’ll pop up again later…

Welp, I think that just about wraps it up for now. And I need to go to sleep. But yeah, LOVED IT. Hate Peeta. Katniss + Gale 4 lyfe!

Here’s the thing. Jennifer Lawrence looks awesome when she’s all glammed up for premieres and photo shoots and stuff, don’t get me wrong. Girl can rock a sparkly dress and schmancy make-up like no one’s business. But man, when she’s got no (or very little, at least) makeup on, hair doing what it will, normal clothes, looking like a person? That’s when she knocks my socks clean off.
